In the newer Riverside and Nottingham subdivisions the builder asphalt is usually thin and already breaking at the edges. Once you are replacing the whole thing anyway, concrete is worth pricing beside asphalt, because you are paying for the excavation and base either way and the surface above it is the part that decides how long you go before the next conversation.
Closer to the water the salt and the freeze-thaw run harder on any exterior slab, so we pour an air-entrained mix and cut the control joints to spacing rather than leaving the slab to relieve itself wherever it likes.
In the older Central Ajax and Pickering Beach lots the driveway usually has to come out before anything is formed. We excavate, build and compact the base, and set the forms to the finished grade so water leaves the slab and runs away from the house.
Full driveways and larger pours are most of what we do here, and smaller work gets priced alongside them when the driveway is already being done.
